Indications/Uses
Reduction of elevated IOP in patients w/ open-angle, chronic angle closure glaucoma & ocular HTN.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening.
Special Precautions
May cause punctate &/or toxic ulcerative keratopathy. Closely monitor frequent or prolonged use in dry eye patients, or in conditions where the cornea is compromised. Advise patient not to wear contact lenses if the eye is red. Not to be used to treat contact lenses-related irritation. Benzalkonium Cl may be absorbed by contact lenses. Patients who wear contact lenses & whose eyes are not red should wait at least 10 min after instilling the drug prior to insertion of their contact lenses. May gradually change the eye colour due to increased amount of brown pigment in the iris. Inflammatory, neovascular, angle closure or congenital glaucoma, open angle glaucoma of pseudophakic patients & in pigmentary glaucoma, closed angle glaucoma. Aphakic, pseudophakic patients w/ torn posterior lens cap, or in patients w/ known risk factors for macular edema. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended for use in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Increased iris pigmentation; darkening, thickening & lengthening of eye lashes; slight foreign body sensation.
Drug Interactions
Additive effect in combination w/ β-adrenergic antagonists (timolol), adrenergic agonists (dipivalyl epinephrine), carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (acetazolamide), & partly to cholinergic agonist (pilocarpine).
